Jammu is on the low-lying foothills of the Himalayas- The city of temples. The meandering Tawi river flows along the foot hills and in the  backdrop is the imposing Trikuta range of peaks.

The winter capital of the state government as well as an important trade center. The city is also the rail head for the entire state.

Gurez(Virgin Valley) Dal Lake, Pahalgam, Gulmarg ... the average tourist perception of Kashmir is usually limited to standard destinations. The place that many haven't heard of and fewer still have traveled to is Gurez, a rugged and beautiful valley at an altitude of 8,000 ft, some 200 km from Srinagar. Mountain peaks tower on either side of Gurez valley which is much narrower than the Kashmir Valley.

Gulmarg means “ Meadow of flowers”. A huge cup shaped meadow, lush and green with slopes where the silence is broken only by the tinkle of cow bells Gulmarg looks like a fantasy set in a film, and not surprisingly has been the venue of several films. From Gulmarg, a pony track leads upwards to Khilanmarg, Kongdori

Sonmarg Somewhere in the valley, says a legend, is a well whose water has the magic property of turning any substance into gold. This is Sonmargh Meadow of Gold a quite valley, carved by the river Sindh, circled by still lake and jagged, awesome glaciers.

Pahalgam means “ The valley of Shepherds”. At the confluence of the streams flowing from the river Lidder and Sheshnag lake, Pahalgam was once a humble shepherds village with breathtaking views. Now it is Kashmiri’s premier resort, cool even during the height of summer.

The charm of staying on a Kashmiri houseboat in a cedar-panelled bedroom with all the conveniences of a luxury hotel is truly irresistible. Fancifully bedecked and romantically named, these houseboats vary in their degree of luxury, quite like hotels. Houseboat stays have long been in fashion in Kashmir and have been attracting travelers for years. Keeping houseboats is a family business and you are treated much like family members during your stay. Apart from luxurious bedrooms, dining rooms, lounge and attached bathrooms, you also have balconies where you can spend your time eye feasting. Travelers can easily choose from a wide range and categories of houseboats. Some of these houseboats also offer tourists free shikara rides on Dal Lake.
